There is a TV show titled “Hoarding: Buried Alive” that depicts individuals that collect or “hoard” up all kinds of things. They collect without the ability to discard. There are some churches that are “hoarders” as well. They don’t have closets full of “stuff” but they “hoard” things that have long sense ceased to be effective. Things such as tradition, past successes, outdated programs and ineffective ministries. When a church “hoards” these and many other things, the end result will be plateau, decline and even the possibility of death. The literal translation of Proverbs 29:18 says “Where there is no vision, the people run around wild.” In this episode we discuss the idea that without a vision from God the church will have little or no cohesiveness or unity thus bringing disunity and division to the congregation. We discuss how important it is that pastors and church leaders have a vision from God and know how to implement that vision. Satan is alive and well, especially during a church revitalization process. The word “revitalize” means to “give new life and vitality.” It comes from the word revival. Whether you call it revival, renewal, revitalization, etc., it is an affront to Satan and he will seek to derail it every time. In this episode we discuss the absolute necessity of prayer in church revitalization. In our discussion we make the case that if a church is not praying there will be little hope for spiritual health or revitalization. We talk about prayer being the Key to giving new life to the plateaued and declining church. Prayer can bring back to life a church that is on the brink of closing its doors. Churches, like people, can become anemic and weak. That spiritual anemia can surely lead the church to a quick demise. This episode is a call for the church to come back to a deep dependence on God through prayer in order for the church to experience new life.
